NDSU and the National University of Science and Technology in Pakistan have reached an agreement where students of the Pakistani institution will be able to work on doctoral degrees at NDSU. The partnership will initially focus on electrical engineering and computer engineering programs, with possible expansion in other areas, including life sciences, natural sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences.

The agreement was reached during a visit to Pakistan by NDSU’s Gary R. Smith, dean of engineering, and Scott C. Smith, chair of electrical and computer engineering, May 8-9. The agreement was initiated by Samee U. Khan, NDSU assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Established in 1991 at Rawalpindi, Pakistan, National University of Science and Technology is a multi-school university. In 2008, its main campus was relocated to Islamabad. Other campuses are in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Risalpur. The university is primarily geared to promote higher scientific education, especially in the fields of sciences and technology. National University of Science and Technology offers undergraduate and postgraduate education leading to a doctorate in the fields of engineering, information technology, medical sciences and management sciences. The university has more than 13,000 students studying at its various schools.
