NDSU presents bison gift to Liberian president

Liberia President Sirleaf with Myers

Evie Myers, vice president for equity, diversity and global outreach, recently presented a bison statue to the president of Liberia. The gift from NDSU President Dean L. Bresciani was given to Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in the capital city of Monrovia on March 20.

Myers and her husband, Deland Myers, professor of cereal and food sciences in the Department of Plant Sciences, NCAA faculty athletic representative and director of academic diversity recruitment in the Provost’s Office, visited the African nation during spring break.

During the trip, Myers signed a memorandum of understanding with higher education institutions in Liberia, including the Nimba, Grand Gedeh, Bong Community Colleges, African Bible College University and United Methodist University in Monrovia.

Myers said the intent of the agreement is to build academic capacities of Liberian students, faculty, colleges and universities.

The NDSU representatives were hosted by the United Nimba Citizen Council, known as UNICCO.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
