Anna Tescher, a sophomore vocal performance student at the NDSU School of Music, recently placed second at the National Association of Teachers of Singing’s National Student Auditions. She was one of three vocalists competing at the lower college level for women.

Tescher, from Dickinson, North Dakota, is active at the NDSU School of Music, participating in Concert Choir and Madrigal Dinners in addition to appearing in leading roles with the student opera. She studies vocal performance with Robert Jones, professor of voice. 

Tescher performed “Winter” by Dominick Argento, “Lerchengesang” by Johannes Brahms, and “O’ had I Jubal’s Lyre” by G. F. Handel.

The National Association of Teachers of Singing’s National Student Auditions is an opportunity for the top performers in each region to compete against other vocalists from around the country. In order to compete at the final level, participants must pass the regional auditions and national online screening round. 

A total of 14 singers from each category will advance to the semifinal round with only three singers from each category competing at the final round. The national semifinal and final rounds took place during the National Association of Teachers of Singing national conference July 6-7 in Boston.
