Records management training scheduled

NDSU’s Records Management program has scheduled training sessions that are required for all unit records coordinators. The training is scheduled for Oct. 21, 22 and 29.

The session will include information on records management and disposal, including instructions for the records disposal that is required to be conducted during this fiscal year. Following this initial training, annual online training will be required.

The program ensures the university’s management of records is in compliance with federal laws, North Dakota Century Code and NDSU Policy 713: Records Retention.

North Dakota Century Code 54-46-02 defines a record as, “A document, book, paper, photograph, sound recording or other material, regardless of physical form or characteristics, made or received pursuant to law in connection with the transaction of official business.”

The NDSU Records Management Task Force was established in 2007, and has been reconvened, chaired by Michael Robinson, associate library director. The program recently was placed under the responsibility of the Information Technology Division, with Theresa Semmens, chief IT Security Officer, as director. Task force members are the overarching governance of NDSU’s Records Management program, providing oversight, guidance and direction.

Unit records coordinators are responsible for coordinating the records management activities for their division, department or work unit. CeCe Rohwedder, assistant to the vice president for information technology, is the records management coordinator.

For additional information on the training session, and to register online, go to www.ndsu.edu/recordsmanagement/training/. The registration deadline is Oct. 16. Seating is limited for each session.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
