Pharmaceutical sciences research lecture set

The NDSU Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has invited internationally known cardiovascular scientist Sampath Parthasarathy, an associate dean for research at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, to present “A Potential New Mechanism for Atherosclerotic Calcification” on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. in Sudro Hall, room 21.

Parthasarathy holds the Florida Hospital Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences, is a professor of medicine and serves as associate director for research at the college’s Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences. He was on the faculty at Emory University before joining UCF.

Parthsarathy’s research is focused on the fundamental mechanisms of the development of atherosclerosis and heart failure. Specifically, he studies the role of oxidative stress in the development of cardiovascular diseases and associated risk factors, including Type 2 diabetes. He is interested in the prevention and cure of cardiovascular diseases using nutritional, pharmacological and lifestyle modulations. He has more than 250 publications and 15 patents.

He earned his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Science and Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He received post-doctoral training at Kyoto University, Duke University and Hormel Institute.
