NDSU's Center for Child Development recently organized a special project to help children learn the importance of sharing with others.

The Caring and Sharing Community Giving Project was developed in partnership with the NDSU Equity and Diversity Center and NDSU Human Resources/Payroll.

Children and their families brought non-perishable food items to the center to be donated to the NDSU student food pantry. On Nov. 18, children from the center delivered backpacks filled with more than 270 food items to the Alba Bales building, the location of the food pantry.

In addition, the children interviewed international students from Romania, Northern Ireland, Mongolia and Kenya during the weeklong service project.

According to Deb Habedank, center director, the children learned the value and importance of helping others. They also were introduced to languages and traditions of people from around the world.

"Our ultimate goal is to develop caring adults who give back to the community," Habedank said.

The Center for Child Development is an education, research and service program that employs high quality teachers to educate children of NDSU faculty and staff using a developmentally appropriate curriculum.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
