Amreen Mughal, NDSU doctoral graduate research assistant in pharmaceutical sciences, was awarded a $500 Love of Learning award from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Mughal is one of 80 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Mughal, who is from Indore, India, plans to use the funds to travel to the Experimental Biology conference. Mughal was initiated into the society in 2014 at NDSU.

Phi Kappa Phi inducts approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni each year. The society has chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities in North America and the Philippines.

The Love of Learning program, begun in 2007, presents annual awards to support active society members' graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching or studies. The society's award programs give more than $1 million each biennium to qualifying students and members through graduate fellowships, undergraduate study abroad grants, member and chapter awards, and grants for local and national literacy initiatives.
