Kimble Bromley, professor of painting and drawing, has his work displayed in a new exhibit at the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls, Iowa. 

The exhibit, “Two Painters: Proximity, Parallels, Divergence,” opened June 4 and features the works of Bromley and Frje Echeverria displayed side by side, revealing similarities and differences in their approaches. The artists are scheduled at a closing reception set for Sunday, Aug. 16, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The artists have had a close relationship as mentor and student since 1981. “As my professor of art, Frje opened my eyes to what painting and drawing can be,” Bromley said. "He taught me the significance of art and of being an artist, how art can change the way we see and view the world, how it can surprise us and open our eyes and minds and how it is we share ourselves through our work.”

Echeverria taught art at the University of Northern Iowa from 1969 to 2007.

Bromley has served as a visiting artist throughout the upper Midwest, Ecuador and Mexico. He has painted abroad in Cuba, Jamaica, Ecuador and Mexico.
