Presentation to examine rudeness, morality

The Northern Plains Ethics Institute and NDSU's philosophy program are set to host "The Moral Badness of Rudeness," a presentation by Amy Olberding of the University of Oklahoma philosophy department, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. in the Family Life Center, room 124.

Olberding will examine the role ordinary good manners play in Confucian morality and what is lost when good manners are neglected.

She specializes in pre-Qin Chinese philosophy. Her research focuses on ethical issues, particularly as they feature in Confucius’s Analects. She is the author of "Moral Exemplars in the Analects: The Good Person is That," co-editor of "Mortality in Traditional Chinese Thought" and she has written 10 articles.”
