Graduate Teaching Advisory Group established

The NDSU Graduate School has created the Graduate Teaching Advisory Group, known as GTAG, to encourage teaching excellence by graduate students.

“The GTAG gives graduate students a resource from which students can learn to become more effective instructors and students in a comfortable, non-threatening environment by working with graduate students who have teaching experience,” said Brandy Randall, associate dean, who co-directs the program with Paul Kelter, director of the Office of Teaching and Learning.

The advisory group is led by doctoral graduate students in a peer teaching format. Members will meet monthly with a group of graduate students who are participating in a Teaching and Learning Community to discuss best practices for teaching assistants, particularly with respect to promoting active learning by undergraduate students.

Graduate students nominated for the advisory group are:

  • Anuchidacheromoh Scholz, human development and education
  • Elliott Welker, genomics and bioinformatics
  • Kimberly Booth, zoology
  • MD Sharijad Hasan, civil engineering
  • Renee Bourdeaux, communication
  • Shweta Sharma, communication
