NDSU will participate in the National Day on Writing, set for Tuesday, Oct. 20. The annual event is organized by the National Council of Teachers of English to draw attention to the remarkable variety of writing we engage in.

The Undergraduate Center for Writers will provide information about the services offered by the center and the campus community take part in word games and writing activities.
#BisonWrite: NDSU Writing Programs on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
9 a.m.-5 p.m. The NDSU Writing Program will feature a variety of writing-related pictures on https://www.facebook.com/NDSUUDW and https://www.facebook.com/NDSUFYW.
Participants can affix the hashtag #BisonWrite to any writing-themed pictures they upload during the National Day on Writing on their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts. The directors of the First-Year Writing and Upper-Division Writing programs will select pictures, feature them on the Writing program Facebook pages and curate them for public perusal.
Sidewalk Chalk: The Power of Words

Students of the Intensive English Language Program will chalk sidewalks with sayings from various languages that speak to the power of words.

Writing for the Communication Evolution

Peter Koepp, Cass County Electric Cooperative communications coordinator, will discuss the role of a writer in a company devoted to electricity and the realities of transitioning from college to the professional world. Reservations are required here.

Thesis Formatting in Word

This workshop is for graduate students working on graduate papers and provides instructions on how to use Microsoft Word 2013 to format a thesis that meets NDSU Graduate School requirements. Sign up here.

The Department of Communication will share writing activities that can be used in any classroom and show how writing can promote active learning.
Open Access Faculty Panel Discussion
4 p.m.-5 p.m., Weber Reading Room, Main Library
NDSU faculty and staff will discuss their experiences with open access publishing. The panel is scheduled to include Kevin Brooks, professor of English; Amanda Brooks, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences; Alan Denton, associate professor of physics; William Nganje, chair and professor of agribusiness and applied economics; and Jylisa Doney, social sciences librarian.
