Business, psychology faculty, alumna publish research

Faculty in the NDSU College of Business and the Department of Psychology recently had research published or accepted for publication.

S. Krishnakumar, associate professor of management; Kay Hopkins, academic adviser in the NDSU College of Business; Joseph Szmerekovsky, professor of management; and Michael D. Robinson, professor of psychology, wrote "Assessing Workplace Emotional Intelligence: Development and Validation of an Ability-Based Measure." The article has been published in the Journal of Psychology: Interdisciplinary and Applied.

The researchers' findings after a series of five studies affirmed the importance of emotional intelligence in the workplace in the context of a valid new instrument for assessing relevant skills. Emotional intelligence is defined as the ability to perceive, understand and manage emotions for productive purposes.

The journal is an interdisciplinary publication that focuses on the integration of divergent data and theories of psychology or analyzes the interrelationships of novel populations. It is a forum for the areas of education, industry, management, and measurement and assessment.

In another research project, Krishnakumar and NDSU alumna Maria Evglevskikh, MBA '14, wrote "Acquiring Emotional Sea Legs: Navigating Joy and Sorrow in Ethical Decisions," which has been accepted by the Journal of Managerial Issues.

The journal is produced by Pittsburg State University's Kelce College of Business. It publishes basic and applied research across the functional areas of business.
