Leah Hermanson, a junior in nursing, has been named the North Dakota Student Nurse of the Year for 2015-16. She received the honor from the Nursing Student Association of North Dakota at the group’s annual convention held Jan. 28-30 in Bismarck, North Dakota.
 
Hermanson, who was NDSU Student Nurse of the Year-Fargo campus, participated in interviews, along with candidates from nursing programs statewide. She is an active member of NDSU’s Student Nurses Association, raising donations and awareness for health and nursing-related issues.
 
“I was surprised to have been chosen, especially amongst the other worthy candidates," said Hermanson. “I am truly honored and humbled to have received this award.”
 
After graduation, Hermanson, who is from West Fargo, plans to work at a hospital in the Fargo area.
 
At the state convention, NDSU senior nursing student Andrea Johnson also was elected co-director of publicity for the state board of the Nursing Student Association of North Dakota.
 
The NDSU School of Nursing in the College of Health Professions provides bachelor’s and graduate nursing education to advance knowledge of nursing, demonstrate leadership, and meet the needs of a diverse society. The school offers bachelor of science degree programs in nursing, and graduate level training in nursing, as well as online programs, with locations in Fargo and in Bismarck. In fiscal year 2014-15, the NDSU College of Nursing enrolled more than 500 students in its professional education programs.
