NDSU Kiddie Days event teaches youngsters about farm animals

The NDSU Saddle and Sirloin Club is hosting the student organization's annual Kiddie Days Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, in Shepperd Arena.

The event is for infants through third-graders, and it attracts more than 1,800 children. More than 30 Saddle and Sirloin member volunteers teach them about sheep, beef and dairy calves, horses, pigs and chickens. The participants are encouraged to ask questions.

On Thursday, April 14, NDSU faculty or staff may bring their children from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to participate in Kiddie Days.

“We hope that the kids walk away with more knowledge about animal agriculture,” said Luke Ressler, Kiddie Days co-chair and a junior majoring in crop and weed sciences. “The Saddle and Sirloin members really enjoy educating the youngsters and it is fun to see how excited the kids get. Most of the kids that come in have not seen any of these animals before, so it is an amazing opportunity to help them experience this.”

Half-hour sessions are limited to 50 children to give them the best possible experience. For groups larger than five children, Ressler asks to call ahead to 701-789-1434.
