North Central Research Extension Center schedules canola tour

A canola field tour is scheduled at NDSUs North Central Research Extension Center Tuesday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to noon

"The major focus will be on seeding equipment and obtaining good stand establishment, especially in no-till residue," said Brian Jenks, weed scientist at the center and one of the event's organizers.

Several manufacturers will demonstrate and discuss the latest in seeding equipment and technology. The program also includes a panel of canola growers who will share their experiences with stand establishment issues such as seeding equipment, moisture conditions, the effect of various temperatures and dealing with residue.

In addition, NDSU scientists and Extension Service specialists will discuss canola diseases, soil fertility, insect pest management, seeding rate and row spacing, and a soybean/canola crop rotation.

The event is free of charge. A lunch will be served at noon.

The North Central Research Extension Center is a mile south of Minot, North Dakota, on U.S. Highway 83.
