Legislative showcase features NDSU Libraries

NDSU Dean of Libraries Michele Reid, members of her staff and Public Relations Director Laurie Baker were at the State Capitol in Bismarck on March 4 to take part in the biannual Higher Education Showcase, sponsored by the Public Affairs Council of the North Dakota University System.

The showcase featured exhibits and activities from all 11 North Dakota colleges and universities. It is presented every two years during the legislative session in order to give legislators a first-hand look at some of the contributions the university system makes to North Dakota’s people, culture and economy. NDSU Libraries, including the Institute for Regional Studies and the Germans From Russia Heritage Collection, and the Agriculture Extension Service represented the university.

The BisonArts Singers provided a noontime concert, with a special appearance by NDSU Student Body President Joe Heilman on his accordion. Musical groups from two other institutions also performed. Gov. John Hoeven, North Dakota University System Chancellor William Goetz, several college and university presidents including NDSU President Joseph A. Chapman and many legislators visited the displays. Baker and Agriculture Communications Director Becky Koch serve on the NDUS Public Affairs Council.
