College of Business passes study abroad milestone

The NDSU College of Business has passed a study abroad milestone. More than 500 students have studied abroad through College of Business programs since 2010.

The trips work in conjunction with students’ courses as they learn how to conduct international business. Many of the students have a second major in global business.

The college’s study abroad initiative advanced in 2009 with the hire of professor Newell Wright. Wright has coordinated and led the majority of the trips.

“Many students have told me when we return, ‘it’s the best thing I’ve done in life,’” said Wright, noting students become more globally minded and are able to better communicate across cultures.

Wright said long-term studies show students who study abroad have higher four-year graduation rates and find jobs more quickly with higher salaries because they’re able to tell a different story than their peers.

The college is currently recruiting business students for 2017 trips to Ireland, Eastern Europe and China.
