The NDSU Little Country Theatre will finish its 95th season with “When the Bird Takes Flight.” Written and directed by NDSU student and African native Amoussa Koriko, the story is about love, war and the struggle of youth in war-torn Africa.

Through traditional African and modern storytelling, the audience learns about Djemi, a 16-year-old girl struggling to survive during the painful aftermath of war in Togo, Africa. She finds a home with a gang of young men and falls in love with their leader. Though their love is forbidden, she decides to undergo the traditional ritual for a future marriage in the afterlife when he is killed by the police.

This production is a moving and honest portrayal of the desperation of young people living in war-torn Africa and is for mature audiences only.

“When the Bird Takes Flight” runs April 29 through May 3 in Askanase Hall, Walsh Studio. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.  Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for seniors and NDSU faculty, staff and alumni; $8 for non-NDSU students; and $5 for NDSU students.
