Political cartoonist and historian to give NDSU presentation, workshop

Steve Stark, a noted political cartoonist, performer and historian, is scheduled to present “Drawn to History: The impact of political and popular cartoons” Monday, Nov. 21, at NDSU’s Renaissance Hall. He is set to give a workshop at 2 p.m. in room 310, and give his presentation at 3:30 p.m. in room 114.

Stark is an NDSU alumnus, who earned his bachelor’s degree in drama and speech in 1972. He is a cartoonist and columnist for the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, and writes a feature titled “This Week in Our History.” An award-winning editorial cartoonist, Stark has published more than 3,000 cartoons. He also has illustrated four books, along with numerous illustrations for educational, newspaper and advertising publications.

In addition, he gives “Illustrated History” programs, speaking to 5,000 students annually in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He has presented in 28 states and Washington, D.C.

Stark was named a North Dakota Humanities Traveling Scholar for his portrayal of Theodore Roosevelt and a North Dakota Council of the Arts artist-in-residence. He was named the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus for the NDSU College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
