Volunteers sought for Science Olympiad

NDSU’s Office of Teaching and Learning is seeking volunteers to assist during the Science Olympiad State Tournament scheduled for Saturday, April 22, on the NDSU campus. Faculty, staff, and students as well as members of the business community are invited to volunteer.

The tournament serves more than 700 middle and high school students. Students participate in competitive challenges in areas of Life, Personal and Social Science; Earth and Space Science; Physical Science and Chemistry; Technology and Engineering; and Inquiry and Nature of Science.

Approximately 140 volunteers are needed for the event.

“We need many volunteers in order to make this a fun and exciting experience for the students. There are many events to choose from and several levels of participation. From people willing to take charge and organize and event to those willing to donate a couple of hours to run a stopwatch or tally scores. There's no need to be an expert in a scientific field – enthusiasm and a willingness to share your time are the only prerequisites,” said Guy Hokanson, NDSU programmer and Science Olympiad director.

Volunteers will attend one of several half-hour facilitator meetings to get details on proper event set-up and rules for the competition. Contact Hokanson for more details or visit the Science Olympiad webpage.
