A team of NDSU College of Business students won a human resources case study competition at the 2017 North Dakota Human Resources Games and Student Conference at NDSU’s Barry Hall on Feb. 4.
Thirty-five students and faculty advisors from NDSU, University of North Dakota, Minnesota State University Moorhead and Minnesota State Community and Technical College attended the event. Students heard from a panel of area human resources professionals, and asked questions about careers and workplace culture.
Teams of students wrote an executive summary and presented their solutions to a real-world human resources case study.
“Our favorite part of the competition was hearing how the other schools interpreted the case and how they would have solved the problems that were presented,” said Emily Peterson, a senior management major and student president of NDSU’s Human Resource Association from Delano, Minnesota.
Other NDSU team members are management students Nicole Fisher, a senior from Litchfield, Minnesota; Matthew Schirado, a senior from Bismarck, North Dakota; Nathaniel Knopik, a senior from Dickinson, North Dakota; Katelyn Selzler, a senior from Hurdsfield, North Dakota; and Madison Byrne, a junior sociology and business major from Eagan, Minnesota.
The team is set to compete in the regional tournament in April.
“I hope the students had fun, learned something, met some new people and gained additional confidence in their abilities,” said Charles Stevens, professor of management and NDSU Human Resource Association advisor.
