Student receives horticulture scholarship

NDSU horticulture senior Erik Laber received the NDSU Harry Baker Memorial Scholarship during the North Dakota Nursery and Greenhouse Association’s 50th annual convention and trade show held in Fargo Jan. 29-31. The scholarship is available to a North Dakota resident student enrolled in horticulture.

Laber is from Jamestown, North Dakota, and will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture, production/business option. He is minoring in crop and weed sciences. He is a member of the NDSU Horticulture and Forestry Club, the NDSU Saddle and Sirloin Club and the NDSU Agriculture Coalition.

Laber has worked at NDSU Central Grasslands Research and Extension Center, NDSU Animal Nutrition and Physiology Center and South Dakota Wheat Growers, among others. His major adviser is Todd West, horticulture undergraduate program coordinator and associate professor in plant sciences.

He plans to work in Extension and establish a Community Supported Agriculture program or farm in the future.

The North Dakota Nursery and Greenhouse Association is a professional trade organization dedicated to advancing the state’s horticultural industry.
