Seminars to examine environmental topics

NDSU’s Environmental and Conservation Sciences Graduate Program is set to sponsor a series of “Greenbag Seminars” in coming weeks. The sessions are on Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

All seminars are in the Memorial Union Room of Nations, unless noted.

The schedule of speakers and topics includes:

Feb. 28        Trevor Krabbenhoft, postdoctoral fellow, Wayne State University, Detroit, “Conservation genetics of native fishes of the Rio Grande, New Mexico”

March 7      Nate Williams, graduate student, “Assessing neonicotinoid distribution in the Prairie Pothole Region and their potential impacts on aquatic invertebrates” and Maddy Snider, graduate student, “Anti-Predator Behavior Variability of Endangered Pahrump poolfish”

March 21    Brandon Kaiser, graduate student, “Feeding Behavior of Red-winged Blackbirds on Sunflower with Varying Levels of Repellent Coverage” and Conor Egan, graduate student, “Evaluating Blackbird Response toward Unmanned Aircraft Systems”

• April 4         Nazea Khan Chowdhury, graduate student, “North Dakota Agricultural Land Conversion: A Spatial Simultaneous Equation Approach”

April 11       Katie Needham, graduate student, “Sex-specific differences in preparation for breeding in songbirds”

April 18       Aurelia Kucera, graduate student, “Telomere dynamics in house sparrows: sperm, paternal effects and fitness”

April 25       Rashad Alghamdi, graduate student, “Soil Heating and Drying among Conservation Tillage Practices in Frigid Corn-Soybean Fields,” Memorial Union Mandan room

May 2          Chuong Le, graduate student, “Evaluating the Causes of Channel Widening in Minnesota's Riverine Systems”
