New faces to be added to Tapestry of Diverse Talents

Kevin Brooks, Amoussa Koriko and Angela Mathers will be inducted into the Tapestry of Diverse Talents on Friday, May 8, at noon in the Memorial Union Century Theater. The NDSU campus community is invited to the induction ceremony as NDSU honors these individuals and a new tapestry is started. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Students and faculty nominated Brooks, who is an associate professor of English. Among many things, he was chosen because of his devotion to helping ease immigrants’ transition to the American culture and environment. The nominators also mentioned his tireless effort in encouraging students to take the anti-racism training and be actively involved in making the community more inclusive and welcoming.

Koriko is a senior majoring in theatre arts. As an international student from French-speaking Togo, he has helped with translating for immigrant families in the Fargo-Moorhead area. His work in writing and directing the play, “When the Bird Takes Flight,” has given him a platform to spread word about his cultural heritage to a wider audience.

Mathers is a graduate student majoring in sociology. As a graduate assistant first for service learning and civic engagement and currently for the Office of Vice President for Equity, Diversity and Global Outreach, she works with creating social change. Mathers has been a committed trainer for safe zone and she participated in the women’s lobby day.

The Tapestry is a pictorial mosaic made up of individuals who have contributed to the promotion of multiculturalism at NDSU, locally, regionally, nationally or internationally. The Tapestry is located on the second floor in the Memorial Union.
