NDSU President Dean L. Bresciani has been named to the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. His five-year term begins in August.

The board, which is comprised of 24 members, is the top governing body for Division I and is responsible for the strategy, policy and oversight of legislation, including its relationship to higher education. Most members are college or university presidents and chancellors. However, a student-athlete, athletics director, female athletics administrator and faculty member also serve as voting members.

Bresciani has served on a subcommittee for an NCAA Division I Sport Organizational Structure working group, to review the components of the multisport sponsorship commitment by Division I schools and explore a range of approaches. 

Bresciani also is a member of the NCAA Division I Presidential Forum. He is the first president of a North Dakota college or university to join major leadership groups of the NCAA. He brings extensive experience with college athletics to North Dakota, gained while he served in leadership positions at campuses such as Texas A&M University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He played a major role in bringing extensive national attention to North Dakota via ESPN’s Game Day and SportsCenter programs in Fargo, thanks to his working relationships in the field.

Bresciani also is past chair of the Summit League’s Presidents’ Council and chair of the Missouri Valley Football Conference Presidents’ Council.
