Ag honor society inducts members, presents awards

The Agricultural Honor Society Gamma Sigma Delta at NDSU inducted 13 undergraduate students, 30 graduate students and six faculty during the organization’s annual induction ceremony April 4.

According to chapter president Birgit Pruess, professor of microbiological sciences, the recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Graduate Student Award is Enas Al Areef, who is studying food safety.

The Undergraduate Student Research Award was presented to Mariom Carvajal, a senior majoring in microbiology.

The winner and runner-up for the Graduate Student Research Award are Cassie Anderson, a graduate student in cereal science and plant science, and Amelia Tanner, a graduate student in animal Sciences.

“Congratulations to all,” Pruess said. “As with any honor society, acceptance is an honor that comes with responsibility. Election to Gamma Sigma Delta is a recognition of the inductees’ ability and of their willingness to assume greater responsibility and to discharge added duties.”

Gamma Sigma Delta works to advance all phases of agriculture, encourage high standards of scholarship, and strive for excellence in agricultural pursuits.
