Benjamin Braaten, associate professor, has been named interim chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His duties are effective immediately.

“The department’s continued success is essential for the growth and vitality of NDSU’s College of Engineering,” said Michael Kessler, dean of engineering. “Therefore, I am delighted to have an individual with Ben’s insight, capabilities and experience to serve as the next chair.”

Braaten joined the NDSU faculty in 2009 and is director of the Applied Electromagnetics Laboratory.

Braaten, who is from Rhame, North Dakota, earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from NDSU. He conducted post-doctoral research at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Braaten is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society, the Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Society, and the Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honor Society. His research interests include electromagnetics, wireless systems, antenna design and implantable wireless devices.

A national search will be conducted for a permanent chair.
