Incoming students receive McGovern scholarships

An outstanding group of incoming NDSU freshmen has received the Harry D. McGovern Scholarship, a full-tuition award. The scholarships are made available to incoming freshmen with a minimum 3.0 GPA with high ACT or SAT scores.

Preference is given to students with an intended major in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics, known as STEM. A total of 21 students received the scholarship.

The awards, distributed through the Office of Admission, range from $6,924 to $18,488 for four years.

The recipients include:

• Kylee Arndt, mechanical engineering, West Fargo, North Dakota

• Samantha Baker, civil engineering, Bloomington, Minnesota

• Jack Bateman, food science, Park Rapids, Minnesota

• Mikayla Bennett, psychology, Bismarck, North Dakota

• Cody Binstock, biotechnology, West Fargo, North Dakota

• Samuel Buck, mechanical engineering, Eau Claire, Wisconsin

• Abbey Forward, microbiology, Oakes, North Dakota

• Jared Motschenbacher, electrical engineering, Moorhead, Minnesota

• Emma Navratil, biological sciences, Rogers, Minnesota

• Emily Nelson, geology, Lisbon, North Dakota

• Cameo Salzer, agricultural and Biosystems engineering, Barnum, Minnesota

• Megan Sarvie, electrical engineering, Buffalo, Minnesota

• Sydney Schultz, behavioral statistics, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota

• Gabriel Shepherd, computer engineering, Rochester, Minnesota

• Michael Solheid, electrical engineering, Lino Lakes, Minnesota

• John Spaight, physics, Hudson, Wisconsin

• Jackson Stremick, electrical engineering, Fargo

• Jakob Sturges, civil engineering Grand Forks, North Dakota

• Monica Zent, biochemistry and molecular biology, Dickinson, North Dakota

The scholarship is part of a gift from Harry D. McGovern, a 1966 civil engineering graduate of NDSU. McGovern donated a record total of $13.5 million through the NDSU Foundation and Alumni Association.
