The Northern Crops Institute at NDSU will host grain buyers from 15 countries during a course scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, through Wednesday, Sept. 20. About 33 participants will learn how companies can make more effective grain purchases while decreasing their financial risks.
Course participants will learn about U.S. grain export handling and logistics, basic hedging principles and risk management tools as well as hands-on trading exercises. Other activities include lectures by academic and commodity trade authorities on cash and futures markets, sessions in NDSU’s electronic trading classroom and time with grain merchandisers who will explain the complexities of international grain markets.
The purpose of the course is to provide international grain buyers knowledge about the mechanics of grain merchandising in the United States. A few of the highlights include:
• Lectures by both academic and commodity trade authorities
• Information from grain merchandisers
• Case studies and trading games
The institute supports regional agriculture and value-added processing by conducting educational and technical programs that expand and maintain domestic and international markets for northern-grown crops. It is funded by the states of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota and commodity groups in those states and Montana.
