The next speaker in the Capitalism and Society Lecture Series will discuss the role of entrepreneurs in economic growth and prosperity.

Peter Klein, professor of entrepreneurship at Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business and senior research fellow at the Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise, is scheduled to present “How Entrepreneurship Fosters Economic Growth” Monday, Oct. 16, at 5:30 pm. in the AgCountry Auditorium at Barry Hall.

The event is free and open to the public. The series is hosted by the NDSU Center for the Study of Public Choice and Private Enterprise.

Klein will talk about the neglected role of the entrepreneur – the active, purposeful, innovative agent who organizes and carries out productive economic activity. After briefly reviewing the place of entrepreneurship in economic theory, Klein will explain what entrepreneurs do and the conditions under which they do it well.

Following the lecture, there will be a short session for questions and answers, followed by pizza and refreshments in the Barry Hall Atrium.

Klein’s research focuses on the links between entrepreneurship, strategy and organization, with application to innovation, diversification, vertical coordination, health care and public policy. He is the author or editor of four books and has published more than 100 articles, chapters and reviews. His 2012 book with Nicolai Foss, ”Organizing Entrepreneurial Judgment,” won the 2014 Best Book Prize from the Society for the Development of Austrian Economics and Foundation for Economic Freedom. The Mancur Olson Reading Group, a scholarly program organized by the Center for the Study of Public Choice and Private Enterprise, is exploring Klein and Foss’s book this semester.
