NDSU’s Northern Plains Ethics Institute is set to host a presentation by Reza Maleki, Impact Dakota senior business adviser. He is scheduled to present “Automation: Boon or Curse” Thursday, Oct. 19, at 3:30 p.m. in the A. Glenn Hill Center’s room 300.

Automation has created a number of issues for the workforce, economy and privacy, but Maleki argues those challenges can be met by addressing the processes of automation and creating a system so workers can change with evolving technologies.

Maleki has more than 30 years of experience and has taught at five universities, including NDSU. His areas of expertise include industrial and manufacturing engineering and operations management. He also has been a consultant for a variety of manufacturing companies. In addition, Maleki is the president of the Minn-Dak Manufacturers Association.

Maleki earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from NDSU. He is a registered professional engineer, certified manufacturing engineer and an academic associate of the Avraham Y. Goldratt Institute.

Impact Dakota is the state’s manufacturing extension partnership, with a mission to enhance productivity and technological performance in the manufacturing industry.
