NDSU club recognized at national competition

Members of the NDSU horticulture and forestry club won competition awards at the annual meeting of the American Society for Horticulture Science held in Hawaii Sept.19-22.

The NDSU team took first place in fruit and nut commodity judging and nursery landscape commodity judging. Team members were Courtney Anderson, a senior business management major and horticulture minor from Gwinner, North Dakota; Connor Hagemeyer, a junior horticulture student from Clara City, Minnesota; Sarah Kickert, a junior horticulture student from Shakopee, Minnesota; and Andrew Scheldorf, a senior horticulture student from Chokio, Minnesota.

Hagemeyer also won first place individual overall and Scheldorf placed third in the undergraduate poster competition.

Club members Tristan Marette, a senior crop and weed sciences student from Versailles, France; Tony Paul, a junior landscape architecture student from Sartell, Minnesota; and Klarissa Walvatne, a sophomore agricultural economics and international studies major from Battle Lake, Minnesota, also participated.

The club is advised by Department of Plant Sciences faculty members Harlene Hatterman-Valenti and Todd West.
