Ann Burnett, professor of communication and director of women and gender studies, has been named the Communication, Speech and Theatre Association of North Dakota’s Scholar of the Year. Burnett was recognized at the organization’s annual conference Sept. 16 in Mandan, North Dakota.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized for my research, as often my service stands out more prominently,” Burnett said. “I truly appreciate the nomination from David Westerman, associate professor of communication, and the award from CSTAND.”

The award is presented to an individual who has research successfully published at state, regional and national levels.

Burnett studies interpersonal and gender communication, with particular interest in how the fast pace of life impacts relationships and how women communicate about time.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at Colorado College, her master’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado and her doctorate at the University of Utah.

Also, Burnett was recently quoted in a Vogue magazine article about anxiety and busyness.
