NDSU students participate in national sales competition

Five students from the NDSU College of Business participated in the Northeast Intercollegiate Sales Competition hosted at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, Nov. 10-11. The national sales competition attracted business from across the country and students from more than 20 universities.

NDSU participants in this year’s competition included Ryan Heirickhoff, a senior majoring in business management from Sauk Centre, Minnesota; Reid Sagehorn, a senior majoring in marketing from Rogers, Minnesota; Taylor Neaton, a senior majoring in marketing from Watertown, Minnesota; Michael Bergstrom, a senior majoring in business management from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; and Matthew Woldbaum a junior marketing major from Fargo.

Four students advanced to the quarterfinals and participated in a number of activities, as well as a job fair. The competition provides individualized feedback and coaching, skill and leadership building sessions, instruction on using social media in selling and networking opportunities.

The team was coached by Mike Krush, associate professor of marketing and director of the Center for Professional Selling and Sales Technology. Somnath Banarjee, associate professor of marketing, also accompanied the students to the competition.

The five-person team is one of the activities sponsored by NDSU’s Center for Professional Selling and Sales Technology. It is the only academic center dedicated to developing the sales skills of North Dakota students within the 11 campuses of the North Dakota State University System. The center offers a certificate in professional selling that is available to all NDSU undergraduates.
