A total of 642 students have indicated they will participate in NDSU’s winter commencement ceremony, scheduled for Friday, Dec.15, at 2 p.m. in the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.
According to Jackie Schluchter, associate registrar, 1,072 students are eligible to graduate. “We are excited to see a 23 percent increase in student participation from last year for our 2017 winter commencement ceremony,” Schluchter said. “These students have much to be proud of, and we look forward to recognizing them at the ceremony.”
Hannah Quade, a graduating senior in industrial engineering and management from Bagley, Minnesota, has been selected as the student representative to address her fellow graduates and the audience. She has been active in the NDSU College of Engineering Ambassadors, as well as a member of the Society of Women Engineers. She also took part in a Students Today Leaders Forever service project tour during 2015. Her scholarships included the Dean Joseph Stanislao Scholarship, Gordon Heller Scholarship and Phillip W. Ruud Scholarship. She has accepted a position as a manufacturing engineer with Integrity Windows and Doors of West Fargo.
The soloist is set to be Hana Trump, from Plymouth, Minnesota, who will earn her Bachelor of Music in vocal music education. She studied voice under Virginia Sublett, emerita professor of music. She was a member of the Bison Arts Singers and Madrigal Singers. She also was a four-year member of the NDSU Concert Choir, where she was president and alto section leader. During her senior year, she was the undergraduate student director of Cantemus, NDSU’s women’s choir. She participated in many performances, including Handel’s “Messiah,” Orff’s “Carmina Burana,” Mahler’s Second Symphony, Menotti’s opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” the annual Madrigal Dinner and Bach’s “St. John’s Passion.” Trump recently completed her student teaching placement at Zachary Lane Elementary School and Wayzata High School, Plymouth, Minnesota. She plans a career as a choral director and music educator.
The event also will feature a commissioning ceremony for graduating ROTC students.
