The Department of Biological Sciences and the Center for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategies in Pancreatic Cancer are set to host a seminar by Marina Pasca di Magliano, associate professor in the Department of Surgery and Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Her talk, “Micro-environmental Regulation of Cellular Plasticity in Pancreatic Cancer,” is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m. in Loftsgard Hall 114.

Pasca di Magliano's research focuses on the formation and progression of pancreatic cancer. She studies how mutant Kras, the key oncogene that initiates formation of pancreatic cancer, regulates elements of the pancreatic cancer microenvironment. Her most recent work centers on the role of inflammation and immune infiltration in pancreatic cancer.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Napoli in Italy before going on to earn her doctorate at the Institute for Molecular Pathology in Vienna, Austria. Pasca di Magliano completed her postdoctoral training at the University of California Diabetes Center in San Francisco.
