Padmanabhan publishes article

G. Padmanabhan, professor of civil engineering, wrote “Assessing the Acidic Potential of Waste Rock in the Akara Gold Mine, Thailand,” that appears in the journal, Environmental Earth Sciences.

Padmanabhan wrote this article to address acid mine drainage, which poses a great environmental concern in the mining industry. The research project is part of a comprehensive study to improve and better manage pollution from mining in Thailand. This study assessed the acid formation potential of rock waste generated in a particular gold mining site in Thailand.

He serves on the Watershed Management Technical Committee and on the steering committee of the upcoming national conference, “Watershed 2010 Management: Innovations in Watershed Management under Land Use and Climate Change,” both of Environment and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Padmanabhan also served on the panel to review proposals for the United States Geological Survey/National Institutes for Water Resources National Competitive Grant Program on Water Resources Research.

Padmanabhan co-wrote the article with Chulalak Changul, Ckakkaphan Suthirat and Chantra Tongcumpou.
