Four NDSU plant sciences graduate students received travel grants to attend the 2018 University of Minnesota Production Agriculture Symposium in February. They each presented research.
Department of Plant Sciences professor Marisol Berti, master’s students Bryce Andersen, Alan Peterson and Swarup Podder, and doctoral student Sergio Cabello Leiva attended the symposium on Feb. 15, hosted by students in the University of Minnesota Applied Plant Sciences Graduate Program. Andersen, Peterson, Podder and Cabello Leiva gave presentations on their respective research.
• Andersen presented “Faba Bean (Vicia faba L.) as a Cover Crop, Intercrop and Late Season Forage.”
• Peterson presented “Maximizing Cover Crop Performance by Interseeding into Standing Soybean.”
• Podder presented “Screening Forage Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] Genotypes for Chilling-Tolerance.”
• Cabello Leiva presented “Cover Crops Decreased Soil Nitrogen (N-NO3) Previous Sugarbeet Production in the Northern Great Plains.”
The students are advised by Berti, who is the forages and biomass production project leader.
The symposium is part of the DuPont Pioneer Plant Sciences Symposia series and facilitates interaction among agriculture students, producers, industry and researchers around the topic of production agriculture. The event featured advice from experts in production agriculture, breakout sessions and a graduate student poster competition.
