NDSU offers second annual Social Media Conference

NDSU's Collaborative Technology Think Tank (CT3) is sponsoring the second annual Social Media Conference on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union. This year's conference is titled "Immersed in Learning: Virtual Worlds for Education."

President Joseph A. Chapman will give welcoming remarks at 8:45 a.m. in the Memorial Union Legacy Lounge. 

Drew Harry, a doctoral candidate in speech and mobility from Massachusetts Institute of Technology will give the keynote speech, "Algorithmic Architecture and Motivation in Virtual Environments," at 11 a.m. in Century Theater. The presentation will explore why people design virtual environments like Second Life and how that impacts education.

Dennis Cooley, assistant professor of history, philosophy and religion, will give a short luncheon presentation, titled "A Case Study in Social Media Education." His presentation is part of the Pedagogical Luncheon series.

The purpose of the Social Media Conference is to showcase current social media applications and technologies and their use in educational settings. The demonstration will show how they are being successfully integrated into teaching and learning in the campus community. The session themes include educational technology, second life, theory and library and information management.
