NDSU to join ND Cares program

NDSU officially becomes a member of the ND Cares Program during a signing ceremony set for Monday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. at the flag plaza near the south entrance of the Memorial Union.

NDSU President Dean L. Bresciani and Darcie Handt of ND Cares are scheduled to give remarks during the ceremony.

The ND Cares program was established in 2015 through an executive order by Gov. Jack Dalrymple. Its mission is to improve collaboration and coordination of behavior health services for service members, veterans, families and survivors. A broad spectrum of service providers and partners form the ND Cares coalition that work to remove barriers or gaps in services.

NDSU’s ND Cares steering committee members include Carol Cwiak, Veterans Alliance Organization (VALOR) representative; Jim Stoddard, veterans educational training project coordinator; Scott Fuller, NDSU Veterans Affairs certifying official; Beth Ingram, faculty representative; and Kelsey Handt, student representative.

"We are happy to support NDSU's commitment to becoming a member of the ND Cares community, which is a compilation of resources that are focused on meeting military members’ and veterans’ needs,” said Cwiak, who is an associate professor of emergency management. “VALOR supports these efforts in advancement of its larger mission to improve campus climate for military and veteran students."
