Internet magazine highlights Germans from Russia Heritage Collection

Internet Genealogy: Your Guide to Online Research magazine featured the NDSU Libraries’ Germans from Russia Heritage Collection in its August/September edition. Writer Carol Richey highlighted NDSU’s collection of photos and family histories in the article.

“Established in 1978 at the NDSU Libraries and focusing on Bessarabian, Black Sea, Crimean, Dobrudscha and Volhynian Germans and their descendants in North Dakota and the Northern Plains, GRHC is one of the most comprehensive collections of German-Russian resources in the world,” Richey wrote. “Its mission is to collect, document, preserve, publish, promote, and make accessible resources on the culture, history, folklore, textiles and clothing, and foodways of the Germans from Russia.”

Richey is a freelance writer and genealogist. In October 2017, she visited the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection to review the archival collections. Her husband, Lance Richey, dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne, Indiana, is writing a new biography about North Dakota native Lawrence Welk, in cooperation with NDSU Press.

Michael M. Miller, collection director, is in his 51st year at NDSU. Jeremy Kopp is outreach and operations coordinator for the GRHC.
