School of Education hosts West Fargo eighth graders

NDSU’s School of Education recently partnered with the West Fargo Public Schools Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program to host 92 eighth graders on campus.

Teacher education students escorted the eighth graders as they attended class and ate lunch at a university dining center. The goal was to introduce middle schoolers to the college experience.

“Hosting the AVID students on campus is a great experience for our teacher education students,” said Stacy Duffield, professor in the School of Education. “Our future teachers take responsibility for the day, taking the eighth-grade students to class. It is a wonderful opportunity to interact with current teachers and students.”

AVID is a college readiness system designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The program helps prepare students for college.
