NDSU faculty attend Society for Nutrition Education conference

Faculty from the College of Human Development and Education made several presentations at the Society for Nutrition Education annual conference held in New Orleans in July.

Julie Garden-Robinson, associate professor of health, nutrition and exercise science and Extension food and nutrition specialist, was a featured speaker at the Food and Nutrition Extension Educators preconference. She presented “Eat Smart. Play Hard. Together: Connecting with Audiences Using Facebook.”

Garden-Robinson also presented “Use of Electronic Group Discussion Method to Assess Food-related Educational Needs Among International College Students,” a joint project with Agnes Ngale Lyonga, a recent doctoral graduate from the School of Education, and Myron Eighmy, associate professor in the School of Education. The project was part of Lyonga's dissertation research.

Lyonga, Garden-Robinson and Eighmy also presented a poster session, “International Students’ Preferred Methods to Receive Food Safety Information.”

Garden-Robinson, Kay Schwarzwalter, research assistant in the North Dakota Data Center, and Abby Gold, assistant professor and nutrition and wellness specialist, presented a poster session, “Food Handling Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviors Among Refugee New Americans.”

Kathleen Slobin, professor emeritus of sociology, and Garden-Robinson presented a poster session titled, “Food Handling Practices Among Refugee New Americans: Organizing Domestic Space.”
