The important topic of women’s rights will be the focus of the 2019 Gunlogson Presentation hosted by the NDSU Libraries. The lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, at noon in the NDSU Archives, located at 3551 7th Ave. N.

“The First of Its Kind,” will be presented by Christi McGeorge, professor of human development and family science, and Ashley Baggett, assistant professor of history, philosophy and religious studies.

The speakers will discuss the National Women’s Conference of 1977, the first and only federally-funded women’s conference. During the event, North Dakota women proposed 40 resolutions – a comprehensive plan of action that included advancing rights of homemakers, equal pay and addressing inequities faced by Native American women.

They will examine how North Dakota women worked to create more equality for themselves and women across the country.

McGeorge’s core area of interest is couple and family therapy and family science. She earned her doctorate in family social science from the University of Minnesota.

Baggett’s areas of specialization include women’s history and gender studies, 19th century United States and Southern history. She earned her doctorate from Louisiana State University.
