Seminar to focus on reservation higher education

The fourth seminar in the Getting to Know Our Tribal Partners Series, with support from the FORWARD program, is scheduled for Thursday, March 11, at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Union Prairie room. A panel of education leaders from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, including Laurel Vermillion, president of Sitting Bull College; Karen Gayton Comeau, former president of Haskell Indian Nations University; and Kathryn Frolich, division of education chair at Sitting Bull College, will present their experiences with the higher education system on their reservation. The panel will discuss opportunities for their students and staff and options for future work.

A reception before the seminar is planned for 4:30 p.m. in the Equity and Diversity Center.

The final seminar that will address ethics on the reservation is scheduled for Thursday, April 8. Erich Longie from the Spirit Lake Tribe is scheduled to speak.
