Vonnahme receives teaching award

Kim Vonnahme, assistant professor of animal sciences, received the Young Animal Scientist Teaching Award at the Midwest meeting of the American Society of Animal Science March 15-17 in Des Moines, Iowa.

After completing her doctorate in 2003, Vonnahme came to NDSU to work as a research associate with Larry Reynolds, Distinguished Professor of animal and range sciences, and accepted her current position in 2004. She is lead instructor of physiology of reproduction. She has reformatted the reproductive management course where undergraduate students interact with local livestock producers to address producer reproductive management concerns. She also has established a research in reproduction course for undergraduate students to undertake an independent research project.

Vonnahme’s research programs focus on the impacts of maternal nutrition on fetal and placental development. She has published 34 journal articles, 89 abstracts, one book chapter and has been principal (or co-principal) investigator for more than $1.6 million in funded research.
