Public meeting set for NDSU bicycle and pedestrian access study

A public input meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 22, to discuss the NDSU Bicycle and Pedestrian Access Study. The meeting is set for noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union, Peace Garden room.

The study, which is being conducted by the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments in cooperation with the consulting team of Bonestroo/ALTA Planning and Design, is gathering information about walking and bicycling behavior between the NDSU main campus and the university’s downtown facilities.

The study intends to offer short-, medium- and long-term alternatives for the bicycling and walking infrastructure. The study is expected to be completed by fall 2010.

The public input meeting will include a formal presentation of proposed bicycle and pedestrian improvements and a plan for a phased-in approach to making those improvements. The meeting also will include a 45-minute discussion period for questions.

NDSU students and personnel, Fargo residents, business owners, community organizations and any other interested persons are encouraged to attend the public input meeting.

“We are looking for ideas and thoughts for improving bicycle and pedestrian connectivity and convenience,” said Bruce Frantz, director of NDSU Facilities Management, noting Fargo recently was named among the top 50 bicycle friendly communities by Bicycling Magazine. “I hope as many interested parties as possible can attend.”
