Bradford Strand, professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, was chosen president-elect of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at its national convention in Indianapolis. The alliance is the largest organization of professionals supporting and assisting professionals in physical education, leisure, fitness, dance, health promotion and education.
A 25-year member of the alliance, Strand will serve as a national spokesperson. Since becoming a member of the organization, he has served as president of the North Dakota alliance; president of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education; a board member of both the Southwest District and Central District alliances; and on the board of directors for the Association for Research, Administration, Professional Councils and Societies.
Strand is a curriculum and instruction specialist who has written extensively and spoken widely on pedagogy, fitness education, youth sports, sport ethics, and administrative issues. He earned bachelor's degrees in social studies and physical education from Mayville State University, a master's in education from NDSU and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
Strand has received the North Dakota alliance's Honor Award; the Utah alliance's Honor Award; the Central District Honor Award; the American alliance's Honor Award; and is a fellow in the North American Society of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance.
The American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance is organized geographically into six district associations and is composed of five national associations. The combined membership of the state associations brings the national network to more than 50,000 members. The American alliance is designed to provide members with a comprehensive and coordinated array of resources, support and programs to help practitioners improve their skills and to further the health and well-being of the American public.
