Christina Weber, assistant professor of sociology, has two articles being published that highlight her research both in and out of the classroom.

One article, "'I Mean It’s Awkward Anxiety:' Exploring the Role of Sociohistorical Context in Men’s Negotiation of Masculine Subjectivity,” will appear in the upcoming issue of Cultural Studies ó Critical Methodologies, edited by Norman Denzin.

In this article, Weber explores the process of claiming masculine subjectivity through in-depth interviews conducted with two brothers who are adult children of a Vietnam veteran. Drawn from one of her larger research projects, these interviews serve as a case study that reveal the ways in which men navigate masculine subjectivity within a specific historical context – the Vietnam War.

In addition, Weber’s pedagogical research will appear in the October 2010 issue of Teaching Sociology. In the article, “Literary Fiction as a Tool for Teaching Social Theory and Critical Consciousness,” Weber discusses the possibilities that emerge from using literary fiction as a tool for teaching social theory and critical consciousness. Using data collected from social theory courses she has taught at NDSU, she evaluates the utility of utilizing literary fiction in the social theory classroom.
