Erin Oberlander, music graduate student, will have an article published in the September/October 2010 issue of the Journal of Singing. The article, “Premenstrual Syndrome and Its Effects on Laryngeal Functionality,” discusses the ways in which premenstrual syndrome reduces the flexibility and clarity of the voice in some female singers. It also gives suggestions as to how to deal with the problem for those singers most seriously impacted by premenstrual syndrome.

Masashi Kishimoto, music graduate student, is one of 16 singers selected to participate in the Minnesota Beethoven Festival, June 27-July 18 in Winona, Minn. Kishimoto will perform July 10-11 at the Chapel of Saint Mary of the Angels under the direction of world-renowned choral conductor Dale Warland. This all a cappella program will consist of pieces by Stravinsky, Siegfried and Golovanov. Other festival performers include Yo-Yo Ma, Midori and the Minnesota Orchestra.

Chris Schuster, sophomore instrumental music education major, was named Overall Outstanding Soloist, and music students Mike Harmon, bass, and Lance Tessmann, percussion, received Outstanding Soloist Awards at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival, April 16-17 in Eau Claire, Wis.
